TRANSNATIONAL CONFERENCE: prospects in North-Baltic region

Territorial development and cohesion evidence, dynamics and prospects in North-Baltic region, 11 November, 2014, Vilnius, Lithuania

The ESPON on the Road project and the North group of this project invited policy-makers, researchers, planning professionals and practitioners at national, regional and local levels, representatives of North-Baltic organizations, and the ESPON “family”, to share and discuss the results and insights of ESPON projects and the use of ESPON results in a North-Baltic macro regional policy and planning context.

The conference targeted a selection of ESPON project findings which are considered particularly relevant for policy-making in a North-Baltic European context, including a sessions focusing specifically the contribution of targeted analyses involving stakeholders from North and Baltic (Priority 2 projects) region. In the sessions representatives of the selected ESPON transnational projects presented and discussed research findings in a North European perspective, facilitating a wider dialogue.

The main themes have been:

  • Urban-rural relations including migratory movements;
  • Neighbourhood countries;
  • Regional economic crises including Europe in transition.

The audience and participants had challenging discussion about use of territorial evidence relevant to these three themes focused on development dynamics and prospects in North-Baltic region. Speakers had shared concrete experiences, demonstrated the usefulness of the ESPON findings for audience.
