ITALIAN TRANSNATIONAL EVENT: Reacting to Economic Crisis: ESPON knowledge for decision makers

The event, organised by the Italian ESPON Contact Point, took place on December 2, 2014 in Rome, Teatro dei Dioscuri’, Via Piacenza, 1

Economic Crisis was the main topic discussed during the meeting. The transnational workshop highlighted, starting from the main ESPON results, the role of regional and territorial diversity in a place-based development process: each territory combines the resources available in a different way and therefore will be different ways to meet the challenges of the Europe 2020 Strategy. The whole South group presented the macroregion reactions and results.

The analyzes carried out also pointing out the main objective of territorial cohesion policy, which is to put the territories in a position to reach the same level of well-being by creating virtuous mechanisms of sustainable growth, inclusive and intelligent. The "big issues" of the Territorial Agenda 2020 (competitiveness and productivity; energy; infrastructure; migration; education) should be be integrated into existing spatial planning systems to allow for a harmonious and sustainable development of a territory.

A key note speakers introduced and developed the topic of Territorial Competitiveness and the Crisis: ESPON as a source of knowledge for decision makers. It has been the starting point for following Round Table on ESPON and …. Discussion and relationships with stakeholders, practitioners, semipublics, academics activities. What match and what distance.
